Paying for College – Seven Step Approach

The Paying for College (PFC) – Seven Step Approach is a funding pyramid designed to assist students and families create an informed plan to pay for college. At the base of the pyramid are the least expensive funding sources. As you move up the pyramid the funds become more costly. The idea is to fund as much of your college education as you possibly can from the lowest steps of the pyramid. However, your situation now or later may require you to move up the pyramid to more expensive sources of funds. The point is that the funding pyramid illustrates the range of options that might be available to you to pay for college and realize other family goals and priorities.

Before you begin the seven steps, you must first identify your “Goal.” How much do you expect you will need to pay for college? We have provided the typical choices, average cost for public and private two and four-year colleges, tuition and fees for specific colleges and you may provide a dollar amount that you wish to have available when the time comes to pay the college bill.
